Fall 2012 Schedule – MONDAY AFTERNOONS

• 1:00 to 1:50   Beginning strings group lesson
• 2:00 to 2:50   Intermediate strings group lesson
• 3:00 to 3:50   Beginning guitar group lesson
• 4:00 to 4:50   Intermediate guitar group lesson

o   These lessons are 50 minutes as opposed to a full hour, but they count as a full hour much like classes and lessons in a collegiate setting.

o   Because this schedule is tight, it is imperative that students arrive to the building 15 minutes prior to their lesson, in order to enter the classroom 10 minutes prior to their lessons and get ready.

o   Lessons will begin Monday, September 10

o   Lessons Schedule around Thanksgiving and Christmas will be announced

o   Registration deadline is Tuesday, September 4

o   Group Lessons are open to students in First Grade and above, plus adults

Procedures

o   The CBC School of Music is open to CBC members, non-members and the community at large

o   Please do not linger in the building following lessons

o   Please use the restroom prior to class and be diligent for the hour

o   Plan to practice at home at least 5 days a week

o   Parents may remain in the room for the lesson, but we do ask that siblings not be present so as to minimize distractions.  The World Missions Café will be available to families who choose to wait during the lessons, as well as a few nearby classrooms.  Please remain quiet in the hallways and the Café.

o   Missing Lessons/Make-Up Lessons

o   For group lessons, no make-up lessons will be available.

o   If you know in advance that you will miss a lesson or two that month, pay for less.

o   If you need to miss a lesson once the month has begun, you may contact Laura Caldwell and let her know by 9 AM on that particular Monday.     You may call her, email her or leave a voicemail over the weekend if necessary.  If she is not notified, your payment will not be credited.      This is to maintain our commitment and consistency to the program and all involved.

o   If you miss a lesson due to illness, your payment will be credited to the following month. Please remain at home and rest if you are ill.  Please let Laura know, if you are able.

o   For private lessons, make up lessons are at the discretion of the instructor

Fees

o   Please pay at the first lesson of the month, for the number of lessons that month

o   Checks made payable to David Kimbell

o   Fee is $10 per student per week

o   Fee is discounted 20% to $8.00 per student per week for any siblings after the first student. (i.e., 2 students in one family -- total would be $18 per week)

Instrument Rental (if you don’t already have an instrument)

Knapp Music and Shar Music provide rentals and accessories.  Find them online at knappmusic.com and sharmusic.com. Knapp Music has violins for as low as $17/month.

Strings ‘N Things of Beaufort

o   Located inside ArtWorks in the Kmart/BiLo center in Beaufort. 

o   843-524-6344 (closed Sundays & Mondays.)

o   Their rental program is through Portman’s Music in Savannah, GA and they also sell instruments.

o   Rental fees range from $27/month for violins/violas to $45/month for cello. 

o   Rental fees may be applied to future purchase.

o   ArtWorks phone 379-2787

o   Strings & Things does not rent guitars but they do sell them.

***Be sure to have a shoulder rest, rosin, guitar pick, pencil, etc.

Books

o   Beginning Strings students need “All for Strings, Volume 1”                                   by Robert Frost & Gerald Anderson

(please purchase the book appropriate for your instrument online or through Strings & Things)

o   Intermediate Strings students need “All for Strings, Volume 2”                               by Robert Frost & Gerald Anderson

(please purchase the book appropriate for your instrument online or through Strings & Things)

o   Beginning & Intermediate Guitar students need to bring a 3-ring binder and Mr. Kimbell will provide the pages.
